How do I care for and clean my box spring bed?

Boxspring beds from FENNOBED are made for everyday use. High-quality materials, excellent ventilation quality, long-lasting springing: Our MATRI beds leave the manufactory in such a way that you sleep excellently without much care, night after night. Here you can learn about the simple measures you can take to keep your box spring bed in good condition so that you can enjoy the typical Finnish sleeping comfort for as long as possible.

Ventilation of mattresses & textiles

Boxspring beds have excellent ventilation properties due to their construction and offer you an optimal sleeping climate: through movement and pressure, you automatically pump old air out of the mattress while sleeping. Moisture is also expelled to the outside. You can support this natural ventilation quality by letting the mattress breathe after you get up: fold back the duvet and also remove all pillows and the bedspread. By the way, regular airing not only benefits the mattress, but also the textiles, blankets and pillows.

Cleaning the box spring bed

Regular cleaning keeps your box spring bed hygienic and prevents discolouration. To do this, you can simply use a hoover with an upholstery nozzle on a low suction setting. Do not forget to vacuum the underside of the elements of your MATRI box spring bed. If the box spring bed is more heavily soiled, it can be damp cleaned, for example with a mild upholstery foam or textile cleaner. We recommend that you test the agent on an inconspicuous area beforehand. You should refrain from using harsh cleaning agents on the mattress and box spring in order to protect the materials. If you use a comfort topper, you can simply wash the cover at home at 60 °C in the washing machine. The covers for our comfort toppers are not suitable for tumble drying and should be stretched when damp after washing. Of course, you can also get new covers for your box spring bed mattress and comfort topper from us on request.

Cleaning bed linen and textiles

The box spring bed lives on textiles: they bring comfort and colour into your bedroom and make the bed particularly cosy and inviting. However, dust and dirt tend to settle in textiles. You should therefore regularly wash your bed linen, duvet and pillows, as well as your bedspread and decorative cushions. Our skirtings and headboard covers are made to measure. Improper washing or cleaning can cause the cotton fabrics in particular to shrink and they can then no longer be put on. We therefore recommend that you only clean these textiles at home with upholstery foam or textile cleaner. In many of our showrooms, we offer a professional laundry service for cleaning skirtings, headboard covers and textiles. We will be happy to advise you on all aspects of cleaning and care.

Turn the mattress & comfort topper regularly

The FENNOBED box spring bed mattresses and comfort toppers offer you optimal springing and support properties for all-round restful sleep. To a certain extent, they also adapt to the contours of your body. It is therefore a completely normal phenomenon of use that the mattress or comfort topper will become slightly deformed after some time. Quality and sleeping comfort are not affected by this. To protect the springing and prevent more severe deformations, you should turn the box spring bed mattress four times a year. Be sure to change not only the top and bottom, but also the head and foot sections – this allows the springing to fully recover. The same applies to the comfort topper. You can also shake it out in between. If you want to protect your mattress or comfort pad additionally, we recommend a mattress protector. At FENNOBED you can get suitable protectors in different designs for all our bed models and in all sizes.

Rearranging your box spring bed: carrying it instead of pushing it

Are you rearranging your bedroom and want to move the box spring bed? Be careful not to push it, but to lift it. The resistance of the floor can otherwise cause damage to the bed legs and frame.
